conflict between israel and gaza. today jerusalem became a target of palestinian rocket fire. air-raid sirens rang out in the capital tel aviv. at least one incoming missile landed in the jerusalem outskirts. the israeli military continued to pound gaza with air strikes, but is not saying that a ground assault may be necessary to stop the rocket fire coming from gaza. it all happened on a day that was supposed to be marked by a cease-fire. at least 23 palestinians and 3 israelis have been killed since israel began the air strike offensive two days ago. israel has called up thousands of troops and seems poised to go into the palestinian territory. >> israel will continue to exercise the prudence and self-restraint while defending our citizens against terrorism. >> nbc is reporting from a second day from gaza. what's the situation as we see nightfall there behind you? >> reporter: tamron, it's pitch-black behind me. it has an eerie silence to it. i can tell you from having stayed "up all night" yesterday to the sounds of israeli explosions, that's what people are bracing themselves

between israel and gaza. sharon epperson is here with details. >> egyptian officials say there are talks ongoing to reach a truce in gaza. the language is going to be key here and whether or not there's a comprehensive deal, well, that remains to be seen. we are waiting to see whether or not a cease fire is officially reached by the end of today. that was the deadline that was set. obviously, these oil markets are anticipating that some type of deal will be reached. as you look at decline we've seen in the price of crude oil, both brent and wti erasing all of yesterday's gains. we're also looking at the supply picture, which may be weighing on u.s. oil prices as well. we're going to get a report from the energy department tomorrow about crude supply situation. it's expected to show an increase for the week. we're also going to get tomorrow the supply situation for natural gas, a day early because of the thanksgiving holiday. >> all right, sharon. thanks so much. meanwhile, shares of consumer electronics retailer best buy down again today. down about 13% today alone after a massive earnin

. there are civil laws, which by the way apply only to the nation of israel. those are called civil laws. there are ceremonial laws which are the laws that apply to cleanliness as kosher jews would practice today, in the laws of leviticus, the priestly laws, ceremonial laws involve worship, then there are moral laws. as a christian, i'm not bound by the civil laws given to the nation of israel, and i'm not even bound by the ceremonial laws given to the priesthood of israel. i am bound, i believe, to the moral laws. the ten commandments are neither civil laws nor ceremonial. those are moral laws. they were the ones chiselled in stone. so when people -- it's a very common argument. yeah, but what about this law and what about this law. well, granted, that was that law for that point in time, and i'm under no obligation to do that. but when a law says for instance you will always tell the truth, you may not lie, sorry, that doesn't matter how times change. >> here's my confusion about you. because you have been with your wife kay, extremely generous in tackling things like aids. you have gi

in the face to the u.s. and israel and two of only 9 companies to vote against the new palestinian resolution. 138 countries voted in favor of giving palestinian the upgraded status and what happens now? the question, are we going to give them money for this upgraded status? let's ask john boulton, former u.s. ambassador to the united nations. he joins us on the phone. it's very simple, ambassador, are we going to be paying for palestinian? >> well, i think it's going to come in very short order, this vote won't do it, but, you know, this is part of the effort by the palestinian authority over the years to pretend that it's actually a state, and to justify more assistance, i think it will try and use u.n. channels more effectively to get money and may well join other u.n. specialized agencies now that the general assembly said it's the state. ab you know, israel and the state department have tried to play down yesterday's vote, but i'm afraid unlike a lot of u.n. votes which truly are completely meaningless, this one is going to have a real effect. >> ultimately i've got about 20 seconds left

in the region. >> you know, it's funny, because when i was in israel, steven, last week and met with israeli officials, they were praising president morsi, they were pretty impressed by what he was doing, and trying to deliver a cease-fire between hamas and israel. what do you think about the role that he played? will the cease-fire last? >> that, nobody knows, i certainly don't think any questions have been resolved in the long run in gaza. both sides have held off. both sides certainly to their supporters are claiming that they did what had to be done, but they both reserve the right to carry on doing it in the future. i think it's very, very unclear what's going to be happening in gaza. other than, i think long lasting harmony is extremely long lasting. >> is the cease-fire going to last? >> i think there's greater potential for movement on the peace process than any time in recent history, because there's so many arab governments in the region, including particularly in egypt, that really want to focus on the broader domestic issues, whether it's 40% unemployment among young people. crea

fighting escalate in the gaza strip as we continue to watch what israel and what palestinians are doing in the area and the fact that there does not appear to be any cease-fire on the horizon although egypt's prime minister is in gaza today urging some international cooperation. we're also looking at the fact that oil prices here in the u.s. have basically erased this week's losses because of the gains that we're seeing currently in the oil complex. we're also hearing reports about iraqi enjoy saying that arabs should use oil to press israel over gaza. those headlines helping to cause this bid in the oil complex. in the gold market, we've seen steady declines over the last several sessions and now a little bit of stabilization in the gold market. there are concerns based on the world gold council report about demand particularly out of china. we've seen the cme lower margins for gold and silver so that may have an impact on the trading activity from here. carl, back to you at the white house. >> all right. thanks so much. in a half hour from now the president will hold key meeting with
